The Sonicator, a device for shearing DNA, needed a complete mechanical and aesthetic redesign to address issues related to user experience and the annoying high-frequency noise it would emit in quiet labs.
As a very expensive piece of lab equipment, the user expected the Sonicator to be easy to use, safe and quiet. Our engineers tested the existing unit for noise and vibration levels to address those issues, while our designers came up with different forms and open/close options to create a better user experience.
As a result our engineers reduced the high-frequency noise and vibration by redesigning mechanisms within the unit and using our acoustics expertise to select the right sound damping and absorption materials.
